The Ride

In 2010, four men confined to lives in wheelchairs following motorcycle accidents covered more than 5000km of Australia’s outback to revisit the sites of their accidents.

Paraplegics Jim Cairns, Terry Mader and Anton Zapelli and quadriplegic Craig Parsons were all young men when serious motor accidents resulted in their disability. While each adapted well to their circumstances, the memories of the days that changed their lives forever remained.

In a trip that was captured in award-winning documentary, The Ride, the men took to quad bikes across the Australian outback. Encountering mud, deserts, floods and exhaustion, their endurance and resilience was tested over the 23-day journey. Fuelled by bold humour and disarming honesty, the men sought to make peace with the past as they visited their crash sites where their lives changed forever.
